About ABAUK:
The Amateur Boxing Association of the United Kingdom (ABAUK) is the new national governing body for amateur boxing in the UK.
We are dedicated to the promotion, development, and governance of amateur boxing while ensuring the highest standards of safety, health, and well-being for all participants.
Role Overview:
ABAUK is seeking a qualified and experienced Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to lead the medical team and oversee all health-related aspects of amateur boxing in the UK. The CMO will be responsible for implementing best practices in athlete care, injury prevention, and emergency medical response, ensuring that the health and safety of all participants are prioritized at every level of the sport.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership: Lead and manage the ABAUK medical team, including medical professionals, physiotherapists, and support staff, ensuring cohesive and efficient operations.
Medical Policy Development: Develop and implement medical policies, protocols, and guidelines to ensure the highest standards of athlete health and safety.
Medical Oversight: Oversee medical support during competitions and training sessions, ensuring that appropriate care is available at all events.
Health Assessments: Design and implement pre-competition health assessments and injury screening processes to ensure athletes meet medical standards for participation.
Injury Management: Provide expert medical guidance for the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries sustained by athletes.
Education and Training: Create and deliver training programs for coaches, athletes, and staff on health management, injury prevention, and emergency medical response.
Collaboration: Work closely with ABAUK leadership, coaches, and other stakeholders to integrate medical considerations into the overall athlete development program.
Research and Innovation: Stay current with the latest research in sports medicine and implement evidence-based practices to enhance athlete safety and performance.
Emergency Preparedness: Develop and ensure the implementation of emergency action plans for all events and competitions.
Data Management: Maintain accurate medical records and data in compliance with relevant regulations and best practices.
Key Requirements:
Qualifications: Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with a specialization in Sports Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or a related field.
Experience: Significant experience in a medical leadership role, preferably within sports organizations or governing bodies. Familiarity with boxing or combat sports is a strong advantage.
Certifications: Current certification in First Aid and CPR; additional certifications in sports medicine, concussion management, or other relevant areas are highly desirable.
Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead a diverse team of medical professionals and effectively communicate medical information to non-medical stakeholders.
Problem-Solving: Exceptional decision-making skills, particularly in high-pressure situations, with a focus on athlete welfare.
Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with athletes, coaches, and other stakeholders.
Commitment to Safety: A passion for promoting athlete health, safety, and well-being, with a proactive approach to injury prevention and health promotion.
Flexibility: Willingness to travel and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to cover competitions and events across the UK.
